Terrifying and exhilarating all at once, the night sky is a powerful vision to behold, forcing us to confront the fragility of our existence.
Astrophotography is one of my creative passions. I'm particularly interested in capturing the stars over the landscapes of the Southwest. And most of the images featured on this page are from Arches National Park. The primordial stone arches are a perfect compliment to the night sky. The distant stars above the desert landscape remind me of how fragile our existence is, and we should do all that we can to preserve what we have.
As we continue to build across the U.S. and the rest of the world, the ability to see the night sky becomes increasingly rare. Through conscientious efforts, we can build sustainably and learn to change the way we illuminate our cities and towns during the night. As with our national parks, I believe preserving the night sky for ourselves and for future generations is critical. Not only does it help us understand our place in the universe — it's also a wonder to behold.
